*RH at the range midpoint, holding air temperature and leaf offset fixed. Results outside the slider range are marked below 20% or above 90%.

Vapor Pressure Deficit (VPD) measures the drying power of the air around your plants. It is the difference between the amount of moisture the air currently holds and the maximum it could hold at that temperature.
VPD matters because atmospheric demand influences transpiration. Very low demand can reduce the driving force for water movement and can overlap with condensation or disease risk. Very high demand can outpace water supply and contribute to reduced stomatal conductance. Plant response still depends on the root zone, irrigation, airflow, light, and cultivar.
Most VPD charts start with air temperature, but the calculation used here is sensitive to leaf temperature. A leaf can be warmer or cooler than room air depending on radiation from the fixture, airflow, transpiration, canopy position, and measurement method. Measure several representative leaves when possible and revisit the offset when lighting or airflow changes.
VPD is most useful beside canopy temperature, irrigation and root-zone data, airflow, light, CO2, observations, and crop-stage context. A stable reading can still hide poor sensor placement or a plant-level problem, while a brief excursion may not be material. Look at duration, location, plant response, and the rest of the room record.
Reference context: cannabis leaf temperature under different lighting systems and a peer-reviewed cultivation protocol. Neither source establishes one universal VPD program for every facility.
